TV’s “Top Gear” presenter, the ever evanescent Jeremy Clarkson is in hot water after describing a car as "very ginger beer", apparent rhyming slang for "queer".
Media watchdog Ofcom claimed in a written communication that the term could offend homosexuals.
People who play online bingo may have heard Clarkson’s gaff during a discussion with a studio audience while reviewing the Daihatsu Copen model of car. An audience member is reported to have said the car was "gay" with Clarkson replying: "A bit gay, yes -- very ginger beer".
A total of five viewers have complained about the comment which was broadcast on BBC two last July. Ofcom has no jurisdiction over online entertainment and therefore online bingo players are not subject to its rulings.
