Laughed at during the recent MTV Movie Awards, reviled throughout the Internet, Paris Hilton, self-styled ‘blonde of her generation’, has finally reported to jail to serve her reduced sentence. Ms Hilton was charged in 2006 with drunk driving. She was subsequently caught last February driving on a suspended license and sentenced to 45 days in jail, later reduced to 23 days. Online bingo will not be a feature of her stay in jail, but keeping a diary that should earn her millions will be. Since the release over the internet of a home video showing her having sex with a boyfriend, Hilton has leveraged the publicity to set up her own reality TV show "The Simple Life" while building a multimillion-dollar celebrity juggernaut. It remains to be seen if her stint in jail will add to her fame and fortune. People who play online bingo may feel sorry for the heiress when she says that she is “scared” about going to prison, but they should feel absolutely terrified by the inevitable media scrum and coverage her release will inflict upon us.
