A freak fall saw old-time rocker Rod Stewart needing 10 stitches to close a wound he suffered when going on stage during a rain-drenched gig at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Newlywed Rod carried on with the show in true showbiz spirit but needs to remember in future that you’re supposed to ‘break a leg’, not gash a leg.
The entertainer was supposed to go on to receive the Icon Award at the 02 Silver Clef Awards in London, but couldn’t make the ceremony due to the accident. His speech was read out to the crowd by the presenter with the former gravedigger saying: "It's a real honour to be the first recipient of this award and I would like to dedicate it to the memory of Long John Baldry because without him I would still be digging graves." And he joked: "Of course an undeniable bonus is getting something that Elton John ain't got."
Rockn’ Rod should spend more time playing online bingo now that he’s approaching retirement age if he’s after good ‘undeniable bonuses’ (not that playing bingo online is only for the retired).
