Bingo Association angry with National Lottery commercial - Online Bingo News
March 18, 2008
It’s been described as ‘deeply offensive’ and coming at a time when the land-based bingo industry is facing its worst crisis for many years. It’s the National Lottery TV commercial which shows a little old granny being whisked away from a horrible old locked-up bingo hall to a beautiful beach.
The UK’s Bingo Association CEO Paul Taboys is definitely not happy and says the commercial is "deeply offensive" to an industry that is fighting for its survival in the face of continued revenue losses, bingo hall closures and the effects of a smoking ban.
The advert is for the National Lottery's Flamin' Hot Bingo scratchcards and is not an actual bingo game.
The land-based bingo industry has also seen a loss of cliental to online bingo games products and online bingo halls which have become increasingly popular as the land-based bingo industry retrenches. Online bingo is one of the fastest growing niches in the burgeoning online gaming industry and the amount of people who play bingo online continues to grow in a variety of international markets where land-based bingo is not featured.
