UIGEA to be debated in US Congress - Online Bingo News
April 1, 2008
Online bingo industry and online gaming industry observers will be taking particular note of the latest US Congressional hearing on the practical implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act (UIGEA) this April 2.
The international online bingo games industry was hit very badly by the arrival of UIGEA in late 2006 with many online bingo halls having to exit the US market to avoid legal issues with US authorities. UIGEA seeks to disrupt the financial transactions between online gaming operators and US-based customers.
The April 2 Congressional hearing, titled "Proposed UIGEA Regulations: Burden Without Benefit?" is regarded as being a critically important chance by the online gaming industry to engage in thorough debate over UIGEA.
