Carlton sells bingo halls - Online Bingo News

April 3, 2008

Land bingo operator Carlton Clubs are reported to have sold two of its bingo halls in Edinburgh and Grangemouth.  The reported price is £1.35 million for both.

The Destiny Church bought the Tivoli Bingo Hall on Gorgie Road, Edinburgh, for £900,000, while Cabri (Three) bought the bingo hall in Station Road, Grangemouth, for £450,000.

Surveyor Simon Bashford said: "The Edinburgh deal reflects the fact that modern day automated bingo now require more contemporary premises."

UK land-based bingo has been going through a crisis of late due to the double impacts of a new smoking ban and a punishing double tax regime.  Online bingo games and online bingo halls have, in stark contrast, seen a rise in members as the UK’s bingo-playing population undergo a demographic shift towards online options. Online bingo is unaffected by the current UK-wide smoking ban and double tax regime.
