Gambling monopoly under pressure in France? - Online Bingo News

April 7, 2008

There is media speculation that France’s monopolistic views on gambling may be about to change for the better.  French media reports are speculating that the Sarkozy administration could be on the verge of liberalizing the country’s online gaming industry by implementing a more regulatory regime.

If the reports are accurate, online bingo industry observers and online bingo games operators will view developments in a very positive light.  France is already under pressure from the European Commission (EC) which has listed France amongst those nations it may have to take action against due to protectionist policies.

To avoid prosecution by the EC France needs to bring its policies into compliance with EU principles governing the free trade of goods and services between member nations.
